About UTV Wise

Why this site exists, who writes it, and the standards behind every guide.

UTV Wise exists for one reason: too many ATV and side-by-side owners spend money on parts they never needed because the diagnostic advice online is vague, generic, or flat out wrong. A forum thread tells you to “just replace the solenoid.” A video shows a fix for a different model. Nobody gives you the actual voltage you should measure, so you guess, and guessing is expensive.

We fix that with model-specific, spec-first electrical guides you can follow in your own driveway.

What we do

Every guide on this site targets a specific symptom on a specific family of machines. Not “why won’t my ATV start,” but “Polaris Ranger clicks once but will not crank, and here is the test sequence with the numbers.” You get the order to test in, where to place your meter probes, and the reading that tells you which part actually failed.

We cover the six systems where electrical faults live: no-start diagnostics, batteries and power, charging systems, wiring and grounds, starters and solenoids, and sensors and safety switches. Together they answer the questions owners search for most.

Founder and editorMarcus ReederPowersports electrical technician, 15+ years hands-on

UTV Wise was founded and is edited by Marcus Reeder, a powersports technician with more than fifteen years of hands-on electrical work, first at a dealership service counter and later as an independent diagnostic writer. He has traced more parasitic drains and dead grounds than he can count, and he writes every guide the way he wishes the manuals were written: plainly, with the real numbers included.

How we work

We measure instead of assume. Test values in our guides come from service data and bench work, not from copy and paste. Before a guide goes live it is checked against manufacturer specifications, and when we update a guide we date it so you know how current it is. Our full approach is described in our Editorial Policy.

What we solve

  • You turn the key and nothing happens, and you need to know whether it is the battery, a ground, or the ignition switch.
  • Your battery keeps dying overnight and you need to find the drain.
  • You replaced a battery twice and the real problem was the charging system all along.
  • A single click has you ready to buy a starter you may not need.

Our job is to get you to the failed part with a multimeter and a clear sequence, not a shopping spree.

Independent and honest

UTV Wise is an independent publication. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Polaris, Can-Am, BRP, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Arctic Cat, or any other manufacturer. Brand and model names appear only to identify the machines our guides cover. If we ever recommend a tool or part, we tell you plainly whether a link earns us a commission, as explained in our Affiliate Disclosure.
